Indian rice has become famous all over the world, export tripled in two years

The export of Basmati rice has decreased by about 12 per cent compared to last year, while there has been a huge jump in the demand for non-basmati rice. This year, India exported rice to about 150 countries.

India exported rice to more than 150 countries around the world in the financial year 2021-22. Out of the 150-plus countries reported in fiscal year 2021-22, 76 have received a million dollar (Dollar) was exported more than Rs. Rice is the highest earner of foreign exchange among all agricultural commodities.
Underlining this historic achievement in one of his tweets, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the policies of the Modi government are also helping the farmers in getting access to the global market and ensuring food security. On the other hand, DGCIS said that non-basmati rice exports stood at $2925 million in the financial year 2013-14. Record rice production in India has further increased the export potential. However, the export of Basmati rice has decreased by about 12 percent, which is a matter of concern for both the farmers and the government.
Record expected to be set in rice production
Dr. M Angamuthu, Chairman, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said, “We have logistic development with the support of foreign missions. The focus is on producing quality produce. Due to this, the prospects of rice exports have got a boost.” The major rice producing states of the country include West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam and Haryana. As per the second advance assessment for the financial year 2021-22, the total production of rice is estimated to be a record 127.93 million tonnes, which is higher by 11.49 million tonnes than the last five years’ average production of 116.44 million tonnes.
Which countries were exported
The West African country of Benin is one of the major importers of non-basmati rice from India. Apart from this, Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Togo, Senegal, Guinea, Vietnam, Djibouti, Madagascar, Cameroon, Somalia, Malaysia, Liberia, United Arab Emirates etc. are fans of Indian rice. In the financial year 2020-21, India exported non-basmati rice to Timor-Leste, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Papua New Guinea, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Eswatini, Myanmar and Nicaragua. Many of these were exported for the first time.
India is the second largest rice producing country in the world
The central government has said that despite the logistical challenges posed by the Kovid-19 pandemic, India continues to increase its rice export presence in African, Asian and European Union markets. India’s growth in rice exports has also been aided by strong global demand. India is the second largest rice producer in the world after China. Record exports will enable rice growers to reduce their reserves and also benefit farmers. Because the increased demand for Indian rice is likely to improve their realization.
